In the second half of the 13th century, a castle was built on top of a limestone rock formation. Time passed, and a fortified stone tower was erected. It is unknown who built the oldest part of the castle – legends say that it was the knightly family named Toporczyk, originating from Morawica.

The beautiful, reconstructed castle ruins stand near Olkusz city. From the top of the lookout tower, you can admire the magnificent view of the surroundings of Olkusz and after the staging of knightly skirmishes, you can relax with a delicious coffee.

The ticket price includes a free visit to the Kocjan Cottage (from April to October)

Guides are available at 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, and 3:00 PM on Saturdays and Sundays (March to October).

Regular tours are available for individual tourists only.

A guide can be hired for a group consisting of up to 50 people – 80 pln.
For groups of 50 or more, two guides are required.

Guided tours are available by prior reservation from Tuesday to Sunday during opening hours.

Kocjan's Cottage

In Rabsztyn, in the immediate vicinity of the Castle, you can visit the family home of Antoni Kocjan – an outstanding glider constructor and head of the Home Army (AK) air intelligence, who discovered the secrets of German V1 and V2 weapons.

The wooden house, where Antoni Kocjan was born, has been built in 1862. By order of the Olkusz authorities, the house was dismantled and transported to Rabsztyn, where it was reconstructed. Antoni Kocjan was born in 1902 in the village of Skalskie.

After graduating from Secondary School in Olkusz, he became a student at the Warsaw University of Technology in 1923 and became active in the Aviation Section of the University. Since 1931 he ran his Glider Workshop.

He designed gliders such as Czajka, Sroka, Sokół, Mewa and Orlik. Of the 1400 gliders built in Poland in the 1930s, half were his designs.

The gliders of Kocjan’s design set 40 national gliding records and one international record – and the motor glider Bąk set two international records.

Is the Castle accessible to people with disabilities?

The main entrance to the Castle provides access for disabled people in wheelchairs. There are car parks next to the building, which can be used by people with disabilities.

There is no accessible lift for people with disabilities in the Castle.

The Customer Service Point, located at the main entrance on the first floor, is equipped with a stair-climbing wheelchair, enabling access to the Upper and Middle Castles.

The Customer Service Point is equipped with walking sticks for the blind.

At the Customer Service Point, there is a tactile graphic board with a projection of the Castle and a legend written in Braille.

On the first floor of the Castle (Lower Castle), there is a model of the castle and three tactile graphic boards with descriptions in Braille.

The Tourist Office dispenses audio guides with an audio described tour of the Castle.

Guided tours via audio description are also possible using a mobile application available on Google Play and AppStore, under the phrase “Zamek Rabsztyn” (Rabsztyn Castle).

The mobile application also makes it possible to tour the Castle in Polish Sign Language.

Can I pay by card at the Castle?

Yes. You can pay contactless for entrance tickets, souvenirs, at the café and for the car park.

Is it possible to visit the Castle on Sunday without a guide?

Of course, individual visits are possible.
During the weekend we also offer guided tours included in the ticket price.
Guides will be waiting for you at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and  3:00 pm. You can also take a guided tour for 80 PLN per group on workdays.

Where can I leave my car?

The best place to leave your car is the parking lot near Kocjan’s Cottage. We do not recommend leaving your car directly under the Castle walls from the south side: vehicles are exposed to rock fragments falling from the scarp there, and fines connected with the enforcement of the parking ban in that spot.

Is it possible to visit the Castle with my dog?

Yes, it is possible under certain conditions. Dogs are not allowed in the ticket office/café area, except for a guide or assistance dog in a harness. On the rest of the Castle grounds, dogs may only be brought in on a leash – regardless of the dog’s size. We do not recommend taking the dog up to the Upper Castle – there are steep stairs on the way, the surface of which may injure your pet’s paws. However, if you want to see the beautiful view from the tower with your pet, you can do so at your own discretion.
Dogs are not allowed in Kocjan’s Cottage – except for a guide or assistance dog in a harness.

Is there a place to leave my bicycle?

Yes, there are two places where cyclists can leave their bikes:

  • at the car park near the Kocjan’s Cottage
  • and the bike repair station directly under the Castle walls (near the gate).

Is smoking allowed on the grounds?

No. All tobacco products are strictly forbidden on the grounds of Rabsztyn Castle, including the terrace of the Café and the Kocjan’s Cottage.
